Earphones

Mr. Lange with his creation
They were created in 1919 by Nathaniel Baldwin, but in that time they weren’t used for listen to music. They were created to help to improve the communication via radio or phones. At that time the earphones weren’t sold for the massive public as long as they were heavy and too big. Because of that the first to use this equipment were the airplane pilots.
Only in 1958 they were launched for the public. John C. Koss and his partner Martin Lange developed the first stereo headphone. They did it because they had the dream of listen to music without bothering other people. But their headphones were big just like this one:

Since the success of the walkmans in the 80’, the headphones became smaller, by that time they started to be more like the ones that we use nowadays.

Nowadays we continue using both head and earphones. We use it mostly to listen to music, but it has a lot of utilities. Bluetooth earphones are now a reality and we have tons of brands and types to buy anywhere anytime.

This technology came to make our lives easier, but it has its disadvantages too. With this invention we are able to talk in the cell phone and keep our hands free, listen to music anywhere without disturbing other people and many other things. It’s important to remember that this equipment helps to improve some areas of work, like telemarketing with headsets, business men and women with Bluetooth and many more.

But everything has a bad side, and this technology has too. Most of its users are the younger people and they may don’t know, but the overuse or using it too loud can cause serious and permanent damage to the hearing aid. Researchers say that 40% of the users use it louder than the recommended.

There are a few recommendations for decrease the losses when using it:

  • Opt for Headphones, the ones that stays out of your ears
  • Watch the sound volume, don’t play it too loud
  • Don’t use it for more than one hour, after that time give your hearing a break

And that's it! Thanks for reading :)

Werewolf

Werewolf, or Lycanthrope
In Brazil, the legend tells that when a baby boy has seven older sisters he's going to be a werewolf in his thirteenth birthday.

The boy becomes this creature in the full moon nights. He has to pass through seven cemeteries until the
sunrise, otherwise he will be on werewolf form for the rest of his life.

But we have other ways to turn into a werewolf:
•Being bitten by one.
•Being cursed by a magician.

How to kill a werewolf:
•Give him Wolfsbane
•Shot him with silver bullet
•Rip off his head

The werewolf's legend had it's origin in Greek mythology, when Zeus turned king Lycaon into these creature that is half man half wolf.

This creature is very explored in media nowadays. We have much series and movies addressing these theme. Among them, we have:
•For series:
 -Teen Wolf, MTV.
-The Vampire Diaries, CW Television Network.
  -True Blood, HBO.
  -Hemlock Grove, Netflix.
       (Derek Hale, Teen Wolf)

•Movies:
  -Werewolf of London, 1935.
  -The Wolf Man, 1941.
-An American Werewolf In London, 1994.
  -Twilight serie.
  -The Howling, 1981.
  -Dog Soldiers, 2002.

Yourself

Being yourself and having your own style is something really hard nowadays, because people really care about being fashion and about what people think of you. For example, a lot of girls wear make up to go to school and this didn’t use to happen before and girls are just over dressed to everywhere.

But, what I think it happens is that they are too influenced by media and seeing all these beautiful women in TV their self-esteem goes law and they try their best to be as pretty as them, so they get really self-conscious.

In the end of the all their personality changes as well, they start to get self-centered and all they think about manicures, false eyelashes and these kind of things.

I think that people just need to wear something comfortable and simple so it could be self-confident. But that doesn’t happen and people take self-image so important that people get hired sometimes because they are prettier even if the work doesn’t involve image.

It’s really sad to see that the way people dress also changes the way people see the others. For example, if you don’t wear expensive or known brands in our school you probably will be seen with other eyes, basically people care more about other people’s image than personality nowadays.

Probably, one of the main reasons for the huge quantity of suicides involves the media and it also involves self-confidence and self-image. The role models for "perfection" are models with really skinny bodies and happy faces what makes us think that we can be happier and live better by being thinner and by wearing lots of make-up, wigs or the clothes they wear, but it's just marketing, because the truth is that most of those girls are not happy living this way.

Living simply and living healthy are the best ways to live happily and to be yourself but also self-confident and I think the most important part of it all is that you just have to care about what you think of yourself, not what other people think of you. I know that there are a lot of people out there that are vain and just care too much about theirappearance but you don't have to be one of them, to feel good about yourself just let the wigs, make-up and nail polishes out for one day and try to take something good out of it. Because, in the end all that really matters is what it comes from the inside.
